Linux for the corporate users

In last couple of years Linux has established itself very well in the server market.However, when it comes to desktops most people still prefer other operating systems over linux. This article talks about the various advantages of linux as a desktop and specifically talks about Linux as a desktop for developers and system administrators. Unlike other advocacy articles, no stress would be given to the fact that linux is free. Neither does this article try to bash other operating systems such as M$ Windoze. All operating systems have their benefits and we must appreciate the developers who have developed an entire OS. It is not a very easy task to develop an OS. All developers have the right to ask for money for the work they do. They also have the right to keep the code with them.

Brands creep into the customers mind and soul

I was driving through the city with my wife today and we see a shop with a banner. "Clothes by weight. Rs 30 (i.e. about 75 cents) for 100 grams". Yes they are selling clothes by weight. The one thing that I was reminded of was the value of a brand. If the brand is not there. The only selling point is the price. Which is more or less the cost price + 25% (or let's just say x%). Customer are not foolish to pay a premium for the brand. Then why is it that people pay for the brand... The simple answer for it would be that in the entire value chain, it is the brands that have the ability to creep into the customers mind.

ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) software has traditionally been used by large corporates to integrate and automate diverse departments across the enterprise. For a long time, smaller companies purchased individual accounting and payroll packages and then migrated to expensive ERP solutions as they grew. They did not have much options as ERP solutions were costlier and required magnitude and many employees to justify their use.
